Festival Show History – Maine Drama Council

The Maine Drama Festival, which started in 1932, was originally a selection process for the New England Drama Festival. The New England Drama Festival was an Adjudicated Festival until the 66th Annual Festival in 1994. 2 Schools from Maine were designated as Finalists and selected to participate in the New England Drama Festival. From 1990 to 2005, schools were self divided into 2 Divisions. Only Division I schools were eligible for the New England Drama Festival, so 2 Finalists from Division I were named. Starting with the 2005 Festival, schools were divided into Class A and Class B, with the winner from each Class being offered a chance to perform at the New England Drama Festival. Originally, Class A was for schools with more than 550 students. As of the 2017 Festival, Class A is for schools with more than 500 students.
